The Most Blessed Last Words

May 16, 2008

“As-salah! As-salah” (The Prayer! The Prayer!)

The last words of the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم)

These last few words of the Messenger of God (صلى الله عليه وسلم) speaks volumes about his blessed character and nature. His (صلى الله عليه وسلم) last words are reminding us of the thing we will be first questioned about when we are resurrected.

His (صلى الله عليه وسلم) speech is described as “jawami’ al-kalam” - comprehensive speech, eloquent, concise words with a wealth of meaning behind them, comprehensive message and guidance in them.

“As-salah! As-salah!” He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is advising us to guard our prayer, to guard our prayer we must learn to pray properly, the prayer includes the Quran, the prayer includes the shahadah, it includes salawat upon him (صلى الله عليه وسلم), it includes du’a (the original pre-Islamic meaning of ’salah’ was supplication or du’a), salah is prayed in congregation (importance of keeping close to the jama’), it’s about the mosque, it’s about sacrificing time, it’s everyday….

The most amazing thing is that his (صلى الله عليه وسلم) last words, his last concern before leaving the world was for us. He (صلى الله عليه وسلم) was thinking about our well being, our guidance until he breathed his last (صلى الله عليه وسلم). The mercy to the world, may Allah bless and raise the rank of His Messenger, His beloved, the final Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم).

Salutation

April 1, 2008

All exaltation is for Allah alone
You are The One with no Beginning,
The Living with no End
Nothing happens except by Your will
All good is from You
All evil is from our own doing
Forgiveness and guidance we seek from You alone
And You bestow it to whomever You please

O Allah send salutations of peace and blessings upon Your final Messenger
the Mercy to the worlds
the best of creation
the most trustworthy
the intercessor
the Prophet Muhammad
who is Your beloved

The truest love that can be experienced in this world is love for him (صلى الله عليه وسلم)
For he (صلى الله عليه وسلم) is the most beloved to You
So no one has tasted true love until they have fallen in love with him (صلى الله عليه وسلم)

O Allah purify this salutation from all negative intentions and make it one overflowing with love

Make it the most fitting salutation,
from Your knowledge of what would be most befitting for him (صلى الله عليه وسلم)

Make it a unique salutation that no angel has ever recorded
one which astounds them
and brings tranquillity to all inhabitants of this world
and all those in their graves
a salutation that lights up the heavens and the lower worlds

Then multiply the salutation O Allah
by every atom in existence
and that will ever exist
and by every part of the atom

Then make the salutation exponentially rise in greatness and keep rising for eternity

O Allah, let us be from amongst those that meet him (صلى الله عليه وسلم) in the next world and this world
let us be from those that accompany him (صلى الله عليه وسلم) in Jannah
and accompany his sunnah in every aspect of our lives in this world
make us imbibe and live by it’s inner and outer realities

O Allah favour us the way you favoured the companions of the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم)
the righteous and the elect saints
Accept this salutation in the way they made their salawat
bless us with what they received from their intentions

Give us a spiritual state and busy us with works that You are pleased with and which brings joy to Your Messenger Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم).

O Allah grant us from your Mercy eternal bliss to all those who read this salawat
to all our families, friends and neighbours.

And bless the Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم), his family, his companions, the saliheen, the awliya and all the Muslims.

Amin.

The Book of Allah & My Family

March 19, 2008

It is narrated that the Prophet (صلي الله عليه و سلم) said:

“I am leaving you something, taking hold of which will prevent you from going astray: the Book of Allah and my family, the People of my House. So take care how you follow me regarding them.”

al-Tirmidhi

Allah bless and send salutations upon Your beloved Muhammad al-Mustafa (صلي الله عليه و سلم) and bless his family and his companions, grant them gifts that please their souls and make us from amongst those that accompany them in the next life, amin.

Engrossed with the Qur’an

March 17, 2008

The Sahabi Abu Sa’id (ra) narrates that Rasul Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “Allah All Mighty says; “If anybody finds no time for My remembrance and for begging favours of Me, because of his remaining busy with the Holy Qur’an, I shall give him more than what I give to all those who beg favours of Me.

The superiority of the Word of Allah over all other words is like the superiority of Allah over the entire creation.”

In other words, compared to those who are begging favours of Allah, He will surely confer some better reward on a person who remains so occupied with committing the Qur’an to memory or learning and understanding it that he hardly gets time for du’a.

Evil Close to Home

February 27, 2008

This week we saw the conviction of Levi Bellfield for murdering two women and attacking another, and also the conviction (to be sentenced later) of brothers Dean and Michael Atkins for murdering an elderly woman in her home, and attacking another family.

These criminals lived very close to me. I’ve heard of the Atkins brothers and their friends before, they drank at a pub near my house. Levi Bellfield lived around the corner from me, he worked as a car clamper in a nearby town. A friends sister had a few unpleasant encounters with him. He stalked her as she used to come out of her gym, making lewd comments. Luckily she got her boyfriend to pick her up one day and that scared him off.

It’s shocking and frightening when these crimes happen so close to home, this part of London isn’t especially rough. We have our fare share of problems associated with drugs, car crime, anti social behaviour etc. But it is the brutal, sadistic nature of the violence committed against the women in these cases that is troubling. Can’t help but worry for the safety of my wife, my family, neighbours, colleagues…

May Allah protect all women from these evil men, amin.

5 Angels

February 15, 2008

Ibn ‘Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, mentioned that with every believer is five guardian angels, one on his right recording good deeds, one on his left recording bad deeds, one in front of him instructing goodness, one behind him repelling bad from him, and one at his forelock recording blessings on the Prophet, upon him be peace and blessings, and conveying it to the Messenger, upon him be peace and blessings. It is said that there are sixty angels with him. It is also said that there are one hundred and sixty that repel devils from him. [source: Maraqi al-Falah, Imam Shurunbulali]

Let’s give this angel that records salawat upon the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) some work to do, especially since it’s Yawm ul Jummu’ah.

Allahumma Salli ‘alaa Sayyidina Muhammad-in
As-Saabiqi li’lkhalqi nuruhu
Wa Rahmatullil ‘aalameena dhuhuruhu
‘Adada man madhaa min khalqiqa wa man baqiya
Wa man sa’ida minhum wa man shaqiya
Salaatan tastagriqu’l ‘adda wa tuhitu bi’l haddi
Salaatan laa gaayata lahaa wa laa muntahaa wa lanqidha’a
Salaatan daaimatan bidawaamika
Wa ‘alaa aalihi wa sahbihi wa sallim tasleeman mithla dhaalik

O Allah! Bestow blessings on our master Muhammad
whose light was created first,
and whose appearance is a mercy for all the worlds,
as many times as the number of Your creations past and yet to come
among those that are blessed and those that are unfortunate;
such blessings that are unlimited and unbounded,
countless, endless, never finishing;
such blessings as everlasting as You,
and on his family and companions,
and in the same manner complete salutations as well.

Back to Work/Back to Blog

January 2, 2008

A belated happy new year to all.

The dreaded first day back to work has not been that bad, even with the boss still on holiday which means I’ve got to cover for him so I gots crazy amount of work to do, alhamdulillah it’s preparation for things to come.  This year is going to be hella busy for me, with starting my professional qualification and continuing Arabic studies, I won’t have as much time to spend on the blogs.  May Allah grant us barakah in our time, amin.

It’s been just over 6 months since I started this blog, some thoughts on blogging so far…

Blogland

It’s a big bloggy world but also a very small world.  Yes there are a zillion blogs out there but you always seem to bump into the same faces, even when randomly blog surfing.  Like brother Darvish, dude is everywhere!  I have a theory… I thinks he is one of those mystics that wot can be in several places at the same time, the ‘Abdal or People of the Step as they are known :o)

Bloggers

Most blogs I’ve come across I have found, surprisingly, the bloggers and people commenting to be nice people, intelligent, tolerant and sincere.  I was surprised because from past experience on various forums I got the picture most people like to vent their anger and hatred on the net, with the safety of anonymity and the ease in expressing whatever we want, there are extremely contemptuous comments being made on discussion forums (eg The Guardian Comment is Free section)

This is not the case with most bloggers, most of us don’t like to be hosts for ugly argumentation.  Call it fitra or whatever, but most people are sick of all the hatred that floods the net and there is a rising trend for discussion with manners, hurrah!

Writing

A self discovery I made since blogging is how bad I write, I knew I wasn’t no Shakespeare but I didn’t think I was this bad!  Another thing is I sound like a different person in my writing, like when you hear your voice recorded, do I really sound like that?!  I’ve not written like this in years, need to get re-accustomed to expressing my thoughts coherently and with a bit of eloquence, insha Allah!   This was one of the reasons I started the Poetry blog, at least in Poetry you can pretend to be eloquent :o)

Intentions for Blogging

I keep coming back to this, I’ve read many seasoned bloggers who say they regret a lot of what they wrote.  Speaking on subjects they are not qualified to, writing egotistically like their opinion deserves special attention.  Shukran to all those brothers and sisters who warned of this, I have loads of stuff thats sitting in draft, or was deleted.  Because they were too long and badly written and also a lot of it I had to admit was egotistical writing, my unqualified opinion on matters (I wrote long pieces on the row over race and intelligence sparked by Dr Watson and a review of the film American Gangster).  The world does not need to hear everything that goes on inside my head, I have a patient wife who listens to my mad theories.

My intention when starting this was to mostly pass on khayr, any sort of goodness I come across if I could share it somehow through this blog I would.  Something that will benefit me and others for eternity, a salawat, something that increases iman, taqwa of Allah, love for Rasul Allah (sal Allahu ‘alayhi wasallam).

A specific du’a I made was for Allah to make this blog a means for my happiness on Yawmal Qiyamah.  That someone finds something here that guides them, that makes them from the awliya and then on That Day that person remembers this sinner.
