PR (post Ramadan) Initiative

October 22, 2007

It was inevitable this time would come, the dreaded drop after Ramadan. The wind of the blessed month carries us to such high heights and for a while into the month of Shawwal we’re still riding high, still waking up an hour before fajr, still reading a Juz of Quran a day, still going to the Masjid for Salah… Then slowly you feel the wind leave you, like a glider gradually coming back down to the ground. Waking up for Tahajjud is Mission Impossible now, and if I do wake up I’m more like a character from Dawn of the Dead, straight up Zombie.

Allah in Chinese

October 9, 2007

Allah

Meaning: main; host; owner; master; proprietor; the head of a family; Lord; Allah. It means ‘main’ or ‘host’. The ancient form of the character looks like a torch so it originally means ‘lampwick’. It is interesting to note that the current form of the character is composed of a dot on wang2 (king). I guess it might be considered as a ‘king’ at a place (a host). It is also a last name.  Pronounced: ‘Zhu3′.  Source

Constant State of Worship

September 24, 2007

Thoughts on Ramadan…

When we fast it’s as if we are in a constant state of worship during the fast. Salat for example begins with the takbir and ends with the salams, usually lasts 5 to 10 mins for fard prayer. Read the rest of this entry ?

Every Du’a Answered

September 19, 2007

First lesson learned this Ramadan - Have complete certainty that every du’a is answered and ask for the best.

Our prayer room at work has been closed due to emergency refurbishment work which put me in a bit of a pickle on the first day of Ramadan. Wanting to catch the jama’ as much as possible the only other option was the local community Masjid.
